Native

Why install it

It's the platform you already know, plus the native touches a browser tab can't give you.

A window that's only your research

No tab jungle, no stray notifications, no drifting off mid-read. Just you and the literature in a dedicated space — and any link you follow opens in your browser, so your reading window stays clean.

Distraction-freeReading-firstFull platform

Your library, offline

Bookmark a paper and its full PDF is downloaded to your device on the spot. Board a flight, drop off Wi-Fi, duck into a dead zone — your saved papers still open in full from the Offline Library, no connection required.

Downloads land where you expect

Every paper PDF saves straight to your Downloads folder and reveals itself the moment it’s ready. Grab the same one twice and it won’t clobber the last.

Picks up where you left off

Size it, move it, maximize it — the app remembers, and reopens on the right display every launch, even after you unplug a monitor.

One launch away

It lives in your dock, taskbar, and Start menu. No URL to type, no tab to dig for — it’s there the instant you need it.

First launch

Opening an unsigned build

These builds aren't code-signed yet, so each system warns once on first run. Here's how to get through it.

Windows

If SmartScreen flags an “unrecognized app,” choose More info then Run anyway.

macOS

Drag ScholarXIV into Applications. Then open Terminal (from Spotlight, or Finder → Applications → Utilities → Terminal), paste xattr -cr /Applications/ScholarXIV.app and press Return. Now open the app from Applications as usual.

Linux

Mark it executable with chmod +x ScholarXIV-*.AppImage and run it, or install the .deb with apt.
